Project Description:
The Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department (WASD) planned a systematic multi-year capital improvement plan to provide the necessary upgrades to the County’s infrastructure for the continuous delivery of high quality water and wastewater services.
The Scope of work consists in to provide structural repairs and the application of protective coatings in a variety of settings. Typical work settings include rehabilitation work in sewage plant structures, water plant structures, tanks, trains, clarifiers, contact basins, digesters, headworks, grit chambers, containment units, and other water and wastewater processing systems utilizing protective coatings.
ECR Engineering in a partnership with CPM performed main role as Structural Inspector and Engineer of record for the Oxygenation Basins No. 4, 5, and 6.
ECRE participation in this project includes the development of structural rehabilitation and coating application procedures. The concrete structures were visual inspected several times by following all the confined space safety procedures. The purpose of the inspections was to identify, define, and documented the structural deficiencies that the concrete exhibits. Each concrete element was observed along with a sounding survey was performed. Among the typical findings and observations were concrete cracks and water leaks, medium to severe scaling, concrete spalling with exposed reinforcement and concrete honeycombs.
A visual inspection report was developed to provide documentation of all the observations and deficiencies found. Recommendations including structural repair details, surface preparation procedures including abrasive blasting and protective coating specifications and application procedures were included as part of the report. Additional inspections followed, during the rehabilitation repairs procedures, abrasive blasting procedures and coating application.
